At just 26 years old, Paddy Sheidweiler is one of the younger members of the Drumarkon team—but by now, he’s become an indispensable part of it. His path to a permanent position didn’t follow the traditional route, but his story proves how far talent, dedication, and the right opportunities can take you. “Once I realized I was truly contributing here, I knew: this is where my future lies.”
A Rocky Start
Paddy began his career through a vocational work-study program in woodcraft and fine woodworking at the Gilde Vakcollege Techniek in Gorinchem. As part of this program, he started an internship with a company in the industry. Unfortunately, the match wasn’t right, and he was forced to end the internship early—bringing his studies to a halt. “I decided to quit school and start working instead,” he says.
Not long after, Paddy joined Drumarkon through a temp agency. He quickly stood out—not only because of his technical skills, but also due to his strong work ethic. Former production manager Dik learned about Paddy’s interrupted vocational training and took action: he arranged for Drumarkon to become a certified training company. That gave Paddy a second chance to complete his studies—with Dik as his mentor. “That was a turning point. I felt like the company was investing in me, and that really motivated me.”
From Trainee to Specialist
Paddy successfully completed his Level 3 qualification in ship and interior outfitting. Since then, he has continued to grow within Drumarkon, developing into a true specialist in custom solutions. He focuses mainly on “specials”—non-standard projects requiring creativity and precision. On the shop floor, he’s involved in milling, spraying, machine-mounting HPL panels, and detailed finishing. “The work is super varied—and it plays exactly to my strengths.”
A Place Where You Matter
It’s clear Paddy feels at home at Drumarkon. “There are several people here around my age. It’s a young team, and there’s always room for a laugh—as long as the work gets done.” What really made the difference for him? “Feeling that my work is appreciated. That gives me confidence—and the sense that I belong here.”
Ambitious About the Future
Paddy is in a good place, but he’s far from done learning. His goals are clear: he wants to grow into a leadership position. “I’m aiming to become a team leader, and I’m ready to give it everything I’ve got to make that happen.”
From a paused internship to a key player on the team, Paddy’s story shows what’s possible with the right support and an open mindset. “I’ve grown here—not just as a craftsman, but as a person. And I’m confident there’s still so much more I can achieve.”
