For nearly twenty years, Suzanne de Groot (55) has been a familiar and trusted presence at Drumarkon. What began with processing invoices has evolved into a dynamic and responsible role, where she now manages not only the entire financial administration but also a significant part of HR. We spoke to Suzanne about her career, Drumarkon’s growth, and why—after all these years—she still feels completely at home.
Suzanne de Groot has been working at Drumarkon since October 2005. She made the move from an aluminum window frame factory when Drumarkon was still based in Werkendam. She started immediately in the finance department, initially handling accounts payable, but her responsibilities quickly expanded.
A Central Figure
“It started small, but over time, more and more was added,” Suzanne says. Today, she oversees the full financial picture of Drumarkon. In addition, she’s responsible for payroll, sick leave, pensions, and various HR-related tasks. “And I really enjoy that,” she says proudly. “It’s quite a broad role, but I manage it well—and I can always count on help from colleagues when needed.”
What keeps this long-time team member so connected to Drumarkon? “The freedom and the trust. I have a lot of independence here. There’s plenty of room to take initiative, and no day is ever the same.” Her flexibility has also come in handy. “Over the years, I’ve had desks in different parts of the office,” she laughs. “Actually, I’ve worked in multiple rooms—and I’m the only one who experienced the entire move from Werkendam to Schelluinen back in 2007. So yes, I’ve been around a while,” she says with a wink.
Proud of the Growth
Looking back on her nearly two decades at Drumarkon, a few things stand out for Suzanne. “The growth of the company has been truly remarkable—not just in revenue, but also in infrastructure, systems, and the personal development of colleagues. There’s been a lot of investment in all those areas, and it really shows. It makes working here more enjoyable and professional.”
Team outings and extra perks also help create a sense of connection. “Last year, we went on a weekend trip to France with the whole team, including partners. We visited Polyrey and did a bunch of fun activities. It was a really special experience. You don’t see that at many other companies.”
A Future Full of Confidence
With the arrival of Jiska Stauthamer, Suzanne sees another positive development. “Jiska brings structure and calm to our processes. Her presence is already making a difference. And it’s needed too, because there’s more than enough work. Our commercial colleagues really dig into the orders. Long story short: everything is running smoothly. We’re doing this together, as one team.”
Suzanne is clearly happy at Drumarkon and sees no reason to look elsewhere. “I’m right where I belong. If it’s up to me, I’ll stay until I retire. And with the way our team keeps growing, I’m looking to the future with a lot of confidence.”
