Four interior trends shaping the maritime sector — and how we respond

The world of maritime interior construction is changing rapidly. New regulations, higher comfort expectations, and the drive toward sustainability demand innovative solutions. At Drumarkon, we closely follow these developments — and engineer products that align seamlessly.

Here are four key trends that will make a difference onboard in 2025.

1. Lightweight construction becomes the standard

Shipbuilding is all about optimization. Weight affects not only speed and stability, but also fuel consumption and space efficiency. Lightweight interior solutions — from flooring systems to wall panels — are therefore gaining ground quickly.

With our new hotmelt machine, Drumarkon produces aluminum honeycomb panels with HPL, used as flooring and wall panels.

2. Fire safety under stricter regulations

International standards such as IMO Res. A.799(19) are increasingly decisive in material selection. Interiors must not only be non-flammable, but also minimize smoke emission and maintain structural integrity.

Our systems are certified and comply with all applicable standards. From floor to ceiling, we think in safe, integrated solutions.

3. Silence as luxury — and necessity

Onboard comfort is closely tied to acoustic performance. In both yacht building and commercial shipping, the demand for solutions that reduce engine vibrations and footstep noise is growing.

Together with partners like SilentLine, we develop integrated flooring systems that minimize noise and vibration transfer — without compromising aesthetics or installation efficiency.

4. Sustainability on the inside

Sustainable shipbuilding goes beyond engines or solar panels. Interiors, too, must be durable, impact-resistant, and ideally low-maintenance. Recyclability, moisture resistance, and chemical resilience are becoming ever more important.

Our materials are designed for long-term use under extreme conditions, while we continuously look for ways to make our production chain more sustainable.

Conclusion

The demands on maritime interiors are rising — and rightfully so. Comfort, safety, sustainability, and performance must come together in smart, integrated solutions. That is exactly where our strength lies.
