SilentLine and Drumarkon: A unique collaboration in sound and innovation

How do you create the world’s quietest yachts? By combining groundbreaking acoustics with unparalleled manufacturing. SilentLine and Drumarkon form an unmistakably powerful duo in luxury yacht construction. Their collaboration sets new standards in sound, vibration control, and quality – quiet yet impossible to ignore. In an interview, SilentLine’s key figure, Sjaak van Cappellen, shares insights into his journey from pioneer to global player, the unique challenges of SilentLine, and the strength behind the successful partnership with Drumarkon.

Pioneers in sound and vibration control

SilentLine is renowned as a pioneer in the field of sound and vibration control. Founded by Sjaak van Cappellen, the company specializes in innovative solutions that not only reduce noise and vibrations but also ensure fire safety. With expertise spanning sectors such as maritime, construction, and transport, SilentLine offers a wide range of services, including consultancy, engineering, product development, and training. The company’s strength lies in designing tailor-made systems that tackle complex challenges.

From pioneering work to global impact

Van Cappellen’s passion for acoustics runs deep. Originally from The Netherlands, he has lived in Istanbul for 15 years. Through his father, he was introduced to the world of luxury yacht construction, where acoustics were virtually nonexistent at the time. Together, they embarked on an ambitious project: developing solutions for yacht construction, such as sandwich panels and floating floors. In an era without advanced computers or software, they performed manual calculations and advised clients worldwide. When the digital age gained momentum in the 1980s, Van Cappellen began writing software, laying the foundation for today’s industry standards.

In 2001, Van Cappellen decided to forge his own path and founded SilentLine. Since then, the company has earned a reputation as the go-to specialist for creating the world’s quietest yachts, winning multiple international awards. “Our strength lies in tackling unique challenges,” says Van Cappellen. “Where other organizations say, ‘This can’t be done,’ we push forward. No other company can match our expertise and results.”

A partnership built on knowledge and quality

Five years ago, Van Cappellen met Johan van Tilburg of Drumarkon, a leading manufacturer of sandwich panels and other acoustic products, at Numarine in Turkey. This meeting led to a successful collaboration that has once again raised the industry standard. Together, the companies develop innovative solutions, such as the Drumarkon System Floor, a revolutionary floor grating system.

The partnership between SilentLine and Drumarkon is one of a kind. While SilentLine handles the complex calculations and acoustic recommendations, Drumarkon ensures the high-quality production of these solutions. “No other manufacturing company in the world combines optimal knowledge of acoustics with high-quality production like we do,” says Van Cappellen. “SilentLine guarantees the noise levels; Drumarkon makes it possible. That symbiosis is unparalleled.”

Looking ahead

To further strengthen their collaboration, Van Cappellen, Van Tilburg, and Kelvin de Kloe (Drumarkon) are planning a tour of clients in the Netherlands. The goal is to work closely with clients on new acoustic challenges and expand their partnership even further. The success of SilentLine and Drumarkon demonstrates that innovation, expertise, and collaboration are the keys to excellence in a complex and demanding industry. Van Cappellen concludes, “Together, we make the impossible possible.”
